Oct 13, 2008Most never had a cap or even an external rubber vent hose on the trans like your used to seeing on a diff for example. But there's no reason you can't add one and run it higher to prevent water/dirt intrusion if you use the truck off road. Be sure it's not pointing near anything to hot like an exhaust component in case it ever pushes any fluid out.4l60e vent tube leakMar 23, 2017Exhaust manifold leakApr 08, 2012Transmission Leaking Through Vent TubeAug 07, 2010Transfer case vent tube leaking?Jul 27, 2009See more results4L60E tranny fluid blow-by issue GM Truck Club ForumOct 04, 2012Without the spinning shaft info (above) I'll venture a guess. The dipstick should have a 90 deg thumb operated latch to hold the stick into the tube. Operating the latch should compress the gasket at the top of the stick. This gasket, and the compression latch, are there to keep the fluid from blowing out the tube. Maybe the gasket is leaking.
Jul 28, 2020The level in the dip stick tube will rise 5 on its angle and 4 vertical and even fill part of the tail housing. I just finished adding a tube to the vent up to the top of a rocker cover level I can see. It all sucks back to normal level in less than a minute. Riding normal it runs great no problems, but when I run it at a steady speed going down the road it blows what looks like oil but smells like brake fluid, out of one of the vent tubes that goes down between the motor and tranny.
Apr 21, 2009It's transmission fluid. Apparently not satisfied with leaking from the cooler lines it's now leaking from my 4x4 vacuum breather tube. When I replaced my switch a while back I noticed tranny fluid in one of the tubes which I figured was because of the bad switch. Check the fluid level after the car has been sitting and before starting the engine to see how high the level is after sitting. I bet you see the level will be approx an inch or 2 above the full mark. That is not high enough to leak out the vent, but plenty high for the fill tube and servo to leak.
Oct 09, 2012May have internal leak, gasket or seal. High pressure leak will aerate and foam the fluid causing it to be overfull and puke out the vent also lower line pressure causing slow brake apply. It sounds like it may have originally been over filled. Fill 4-5 quarts, then start the truck and then slowly fill up the remaining fluid. This should keep it from leaking from the vent hole. K10Th400 Vent Tube Leak! NastyZ28Jun 24, 2007Now mark your dipstick where the fluid level is. This is the correct full while warm running level. You could be slightly below that with a deep pan and be fine. So it would be your max level. If it keeps doing it after you use this method to verify it, then you may have a crossleak in the pump causing pressurized fluid to bleed into the vent circuit.Th400 Vent Tube Leak! For trans fluid to come out the vent tube this means it has to be overfilled or overheating from slippage or a faulty torque converter clutch. If you are not noticing any slippage then I would not jump into taking info stating you need a new trans.Transmission Leaking Through Vent Tube GMC Truck ForumAug 09, 2010I followed the vent tube and I don't think it's a vent for the transfer case. I think it's a vent for the transmission and just runs over the transfer case. The fluid leaking out is red and l believe this is transmission fluid and not the autotrac fluid. The truck seems to drive fine and I checked the transmission fluid level and it looks good.Transmission fluid comes up out of the transmission vent Question Why is tranny fluid leaking out of my vent tube Nov 10, 2016Hi there. Fluid seepage out of the vent tube can sometimes be normal, but can also be caused by overfilling. Has a service been performed recently? Perform a fluid level and condition inspection by having the engine at idle, on a level surface, warmed up engine, and remove the dipstick and cleaning it with a shop towel. Reinsert the dipstick and fully remove to a horizontal position for inspection.
There is a transmission vent tube on top of the transmission, & when the vent tube sticks shut, it causes trans fluid to come out of the dipstick (path of least resistance), and/or, the trans pan gasket. This is a common issue w/ the 2000 Taurus. Hello All, I have an L3901 HST 4wd with 1 rear remote. it has started to push hydraulic fluid (a LOT!!) out of the vent tube whenever I use the rear remote valve. when there is no load, all seems to be good. there was so much fluid, I initially thought a line or fitting had failed.Transmission leak through vent tube?? Vintage Mustang Apr 14, 2019Drainback leaking out the vent isn't normal. You need to fix it. If it happens with your car at an extreme angle then if you let it sit long enough dead level it will eventually leak then too. If you overfilled the transmission a bit it would only mean the actual dripping out would start sooner.Transmission leak through vent tube?? Vintage Mustang Apr 14, 2019It's got a rebuilt C4 tranny, rebuilt torque converter whole nine yards. There is a seal between the tranny and the transfer case just as there would be a seal on the tail housing of a tranny without a transfer case. Without a transfer case, it falls to the ground or gets spun around by the yoke. What causes trans fluid to come out of the vent cap Question Why is tranny fluid leaking out of my vent tube Jul 06, 2005The fluid overflows from over-heating. Over-heating can also cause seals to leak. If the front seal is indeed leaking, you can try "Trans-X" which may help if the leak is minor. You need to get your sensors fixed before you can determine if there is an actual transmission problem or not.
Answer (1 of 3) There are a few possible causes of transmission fluid coming out of a dipstick hole. The most likely cause is the vent hose might be clogged. In this case, you would need to clean out the vent carefully. Most people use a long piece of sturdy wire to remove the build-up. This isn't a permanent fix. It will have to be properly cleaned as soon as possible.
